Project Outline
Turn a dilapidated firehouse on the southside of Chicago into an African American Firefighters Museum using LEED as a guideline.
Strategy
During site visits, we saw the neighborhood had a lack of community pride. Bringing this museum into this neighborhood, we learned that the area used to be ripe with pride and community spirit. To bring that back into the community, we chose to create flexible areas throughout the museum for public meetings. Sustainable strategies were used in the design, which would include educational components, so the community could learn about rain water collection, recycling, photovoltaic panels, permeable paving, and more.
